Turn AI's Carbon Cost Into Community Power

Data centers power our AI tools. Communities host the infrastructure. We make sure communities benefit.

Mariella, Founder

Why I Built the OffsetMy.ai Platform

Growing up, I wanted to be a creator—to bring my visions to life. I studied Agricultural and Applied Economics at UW-Madison with a minor in Environmental Science, then became a commercial and industrial solar developer.

I've been trying to sell clean energy to data centers for years. I know how much power they consume. I know what they'll pay for energy and carbon offsets. And I know how little communities hosting them receive in return.

When I discovered AI tools like ChatGPT, my heart soared. Here was technology that gives humans the freedom to think more creatively, to solve problems we couldn't tackle before. But then I learned about the carbon cost—and watched as the same extractive pattern repeated itself.

Data centers arrive. Communities bear the burden. Profits flow elsewhere.

Across the country, major data centers are being built in small and mid-sized communities. Many are protesting—worried about electricity costs, water usage, and getting nothing in return.

But here's what I knew from my work: Data centers DO pay for carbon offsets. Corporate carbon credit markets are real and growing. Microsoft alone committed to 7 million tons at $34/ton through 25-year contracts with Carbon Chestnut—community forestry projects in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.

The problem? That revenue goes to private equity firms who own the projects—not to the communities hosting the infrastructure.

I built OffsetMy.ai to fix this.

My background prepared me for it:

  • Ag economics degree: I understand systems that serve multiple stakeholders
  • Environmental science training: I know carbon markets and verification
  • Solar development experience: I've navigated data center economics and regulations

I know what's possible. I know what data centers pay. I know how to ensure communities benefit.

How It Works: Individual Action → Community Power

Your offset purchase doesn't just neutralize your carbon—it builds permanent infrastructure in data center communities.

  1. You offset your AI usage — Your digital footprint is immediately neutralized through verified carbon credits
  2. Your money funds local projects — 40% goes to solar, forestry, and restoration in data center communities
  3. Communities vote on projects — Democratic allocation ensures people choose what gets built
  4. Projects generate new credits — Community infrastructure creates carbon credits for sale
  5. We advocate for local purchases — Push data centers to buy credits from the communities they impact
  6. Revenue flows back — Money stays local, funding more projects indefinitely
  7. You receive a Climate Player Card — Collectible NFT featuring climate heroes and accountability cases. Your proof of action and ticket to IRL organizing events

It's a circular economy where individual accountability creates systemic change.

Where Your Money Goes

40% Community Carbon Projects

Funds solar installations on schools, urban forestry, regenerative agriculture, and watershed restoration in data center communities. Communities vote quarterly on which projects to fund.

20% Your Immediate Impact

Through CNaught, immediately retires verified carbon credits equal to your footprint. You receive official certificates while community projects develop.

40% Advocacy & IRL Community Organizing

Funds work with municipalities and data centers to create local carbon markets—ensuring big tech purchases credits from the communities they impact. Also funds IRL organizing events and networking where Climate Player Card holders connect, strategize, and build power together.

What Makes This Different

Community Ownership

Projects are owned by or built in partnership with communities—not private equity firms. Revenue stays local.

Democratic Allocation

Contributors and community members vote on which projects receive funding. Your voice matters.

Circular Economy

Revenue from data center purchases funds MORE projects. The cycle continues forever.

Full Transparency

See exactly where your money goes, which projects are funded, and how much carbon is offset.

The market is proven: Corporate buyers already purchase carbon credits at $34/ton through long-term contracts. We're just ensuring communities—not investors—capture that value.

Which Communities Benefit?

We focus on communities hosting major data centers—places dealing with massive electricity consumption and water usage but seeing minimal economic benefit in return.

Our approach: We identify regions where data center infrastructure is being built or expanded, then work with local stakeholders to fund projects that communities actually want. Communities vote on which projects receive funding.

Types of projects we fund: Solar installations on schools and nonprofits, urban reforestation, battery storage systems, regenerative agriculture, wetland restoration—all designed to generate verified carbon credits that can be sold to local data centers.

As the platform grows, we'll expand to more data center regions across the country, always prioritizing communities that host infrastructure but see little benefit.

The Path Forward

We're at a pivotal moment. AI and data centers will continue expanding—that's inevitable. But whether they do so responsibly, whether communities benefit, whether we offset environmental impact—that's still being decided.

"I want to prove that creative solutions exist. That individual action creates systemic change. That communities hosting data centers can thrive, not just bear the burden. We must all be held accountable—individuals, companies, data centers. Everyone."

Make Your Impact Visible

Carbon offsetting is invisible. You pay, carbon gets retired somewhere, and... that's it. We wanted to change that.

When you offset with OffsetMy.ai, you receive a Climate Player Card NFT—a collectible featuring climate activists, scientists, innovators, and accountability cases (yes, we document corporate harm too).

Your card serves four purposes:

  • Proof of action: Makes invisible impact tangible
  • Event access: Your ticket to IRL organizing and networking events
  • Education: Learn about climate leaders and accountability cases
  • Verification: Anonymous online, trusted in person

Cards feature figures like Greta Thunberg, Dr. James Hansen, and Boyan Slat—alongside accountability cards documenting corporate harm from companies like ExxonMobil and Meta. It's about celebrating heroes AND holding power accountable.

First IRL organizing event: Chicago, Spring 2026. Card holders get priority access.

Join the Movement

Whether you use ChatGPT daily, create AI art, or just want to take responsibility for your digital footprint—you belong here.
